Triple A Information

The AAA (triple A) company provides more than three ways to save money. The business most known for its roadside service to broken-down vehicles also sells auto insurance, helps customers plan their next vacation and provides a plethora of automobile services.

The organization started in 1902 in Chicago as the American Automobile Association. Now based in Heathrow, Florida, AAA has more than 50 million members.

It will steer consumers to AAA-approved auto-repair shops. It recommends places to get new or replacement windshields or other auto glass, batteries, and general maintenance. It also runs an “Auto Manager” program, where the customer plugs in basic information about the vehicle, and AAA sends maintenance and repair information via e-mail.

The discounts are numerous for AAA members. Everywhere from optometrists to restaurants to retail stores to hotels give some kind of discount when a customer simply flashes a AAA card or enters his or her member number. Homewood Suites by Hilton, for example, gives a 5-percent discount to AAA members when they show their card upon check in.

Fanny May Fine Chocolates gives a 15-percent discount to AAA members when customers order online. The 1-800-FLOWERS company offers a 20-percent discount when customers order online or by phone. The Cookies by Design company takes off 15 percent for AAA members, and Blue Nile, a jewelry store, reduces the total cost by 10 percent.

If customers go to www.aaa.com/target, they can get a 10-percent discount on select items from Target. Best Buy’s Geek Squad offers a 20-percent discount for its technical support and services, and FTD takes 25 percent off for AAA members if they order at www.FTD.com.

Hertz Car Rentals (20 percent), Lenscrafters (30 percent), Amtrak (10 percent), Dell Computers (6 percent), Planetfone (10 percent), Barnes and Noble (10 percent), Best Western (10 percent), DoubleTree Hotels (5 percent), Embassy Suites (5 percent), Hampton Inn (10 percent) Hard Rock Café (10 percent), NAPA (7 percent) and New York & Company (15 percent) all offer discounts to AAA members, among other companies.

AAA also has a Web site, www.aaa.com/Shopnow, where members can shop from a number of stores and get a discount, like Shop.NHL.com (15 percent), NFLShop.com (15 percent), NBAShop.com (15 percent) and Jos. A. Bank (20 percent).

Find Promotional Discounts, Coupon Codes, and Deals for AAA

Some deals are localized to specific areas of the country. The company’s Web site, www.aaa.com, has a searchable database full of information about what deals are available and where. If a AAA member is traveling to New York City, for example, he or she can search by location by typing in “New York City” into the search bar and see what discounts are available there.

The AAA member can also search for flights, car rentals and hotel rooms that have a AAA discount on the AAA Web site. Members can also enter their area code into a box on the right side of the screen and check where the cheapest gasoline is near them.

AAA is currently running a promotion through March 31, where customers at any of the company’s Car Care stores can enter to win free maintenance on their vehicles for one year. Called the “1 year 200k package,” 27 winners will receive 12 tire pressure checks (one per month), an air conditioning check, a battery check, four oil changes, two tire rotations and balancing, a headlamp replacement, an air filter, a glass repair, and more than $600 worth of coupons.
